Plasmatics: Maggots, the record (1987)

Plasmatics: Maggots, the record

Heavy metal concept albums are nothing new; however, this macabre opus ranks among the most bizarre ever recorded. More of an audio play than a music album, a Rod Serling-like narrator takes listeners through a disturbingly graphic story depicting genetically mutated maggots breeding exponentially until mankind is exterminated. Not for the squeamish; explicit dialogue and detailed descriptions of characters and their horrible deaths by the disgusting creatures are told with fantastic horror. Providing interlude are six apocalyptic Plasmatics songs embellishing the plot and displaying Wendy O. Williams' distinctive machine-gun caterwauling. "You're a Zombie," "The Day of the Humans Gone," "Brain Dead," and "Finale" are surprisingly decent '80s punk metal anthems with all the trimmings: chanted vocals, pounding militia-marching drums, and crunching guitar work. Once tossed off as gory camp, realized environmental changes and threats of biological terrorism made this prophetic release particularly unnerving. Craig Curtice, All Music Guide

The Avalanches - Since I left you

The Avalanches-Since I Left You|rar

Since I Left You (2000) is the debut album by Melbourne-based electronic music group The Avalanches. It is composed almost entirely of samples from old records, films, and TV shows. It was a worldwide success, especially in the UK where it reached #8 on the commercial album charts.

"Frontier Psychiatrist" was released as a single and became their most well-known song, hitting #48 in Australia and #18 in the UK. The song "Since I Left You" hit #16 in the UK and also entered the top 100 in Australia. The album also reached #8 in the UK, and was Planet Sound's #1 Album of 2001. Initial overseas versions of the album had some samples removed. Current pressings have most of these samples back in place. Avalanches also became the first act to get permission from Madonna to sample her work. (extraído de wikipedia)

Musica Futurista: The Art of Noises (1980)

Musica Futurista: The Art of Noises

Musica Futurista: The Art of Noises is a 74 minute collection of music and spoken word from the Italian Futurist movement 1909-1935, including original recordings by Marinetti, Russolo and Balilla Pratella.
As well as vintage 'free verse' readings by Futurist figurehead F.T. Marinetti, the CD includes recordings of the celebrated intonarumori (noise intoners) created by Luigi Russolo, including the compostition The Awakening of a City. Russolo's public performances scandalized Europe in 1914 yet still resonate today. Although his extraordinary ideas met with fierce resistance, it is now clear he exerted a powerful influence on a number of leading avant-garde and experimental composers, initially Igor Stravinsky, George Antheil and Arthur Honegger, and later John Cage, Edgard Varese, Karlheinz Stockhausen and Harry Partch, as well as non-classical electronica and avant-rock. As well as period recordings, the CD includes contemporary performances of other key Futurist works by Balilla Pratella, Antonio Russolo, Aldo Giuntini, Luigi Grandi, Silvio Mix, Franco Casavola, Alfredo Casella, Matty Malneck and Frank Signorelli.

is a North Korean marching song composed during the Korean War that was sung by the North Koreans and their Chinese allies. It was once reported to be more popular in China than the song praising Mao Zedong -- "Dongfang Hong" (The East is Red).

A apresentação dividiu opiniões.

The Divine Comedy - Victory for the comic muse

The album is fairly unique in the Divine Comedy catalogue - and in the catalogue of most recent popular music - in that Hannon's original aim with the album was to record it entirely in two weeks, with the minimum of overdubbing. As such, almost all of the music on the album - much to the chagrin of the classical players involved on almost every track, and the Divine Comedy band itself - was recorded in live takes. At first, they attempted to use no click tracks or headphones, but eventually they did. The band would record their part, the orchestra would overdub theirs, and then Hannon would record his vocals. No further overdubbing took place unless absolutely necessary, in a fairly hurried style of recording, and in stark contrast to the modern recording technique of stacking up tracks.

During the recording, Hannon's vocals had to be recorded even more hurriedly than planned because for most of the two weeks he was suffering from a cold that got progressively worse before finally clearing up. (by Wikipedia)

Jandek: Chair Beside a Window (1982)

Jandek: Chair Beside a Window

Jandek is the musical project of an outsider musician who operates out of Houston, Texas. Since 1978, Jandek has self-released 50 albums of unusual, often emotionally dissolute folk and blues songs without ever granting more than the occasional interview or providing any biographical information. Jandek often plays a highly idiosyncratic and frequently atonal form of folk and blues music, often using an open and unconventional chord structure. Jandek's music is unique, but his lyrics closely mirror the country blues and folk traditions of Eastern Texas.

Yo-Yo Ma - Japanese melodies

Cellist Yo-Yo Ma was born in Paris, France, in 1955. He began his cello studies with his father at the age of four and gave his first public recital when he was five. After moving with his family to New York City, he continued cello studies with Janos Scholz, beginning in 1962, followed by lessons with Leonard Rose from 1964 to 1971 at the Juilliard School of Music. He attended Harvard University, where he studied the humanities and played cello in his spare time. His active performing career began after graduation from Harvard in 1976, at which time he was already being compared to two of the twentieth century’s best-known cellists, Mstislav Rostropovich and the legendary Pablo Casals (d. 1973). In 1978, Ma was awarded the Avery Fisher Prize.

Ma made his first recordings in 1979, for the Lyrita label. In 1980, he formed an exclusive relationship with the Sony Classical recording company (at that time, CBS Masterworks), for which he has produced well over fifty issues. His recordings include most of the standard cello repertoire--solo, concerto, and chamber--as well as less-known works and contemporary compositions written especially for him. In the 1980s he developed a performing rapport with pianist Emanuel Ax, violinist Isaac Stern, and violinist/violist Jaime Laredo. Their recordings together are still hailed as among the best of the genre. More recently, Ma has made recordings on a Baroque-period cello.

Ma has also performed and made recordings of the music of the crossover and world genres. Among these are a collaboration with singer/composer Bobby McFerrin; two recordings of Japanese melodies; the "Appalachian" series, with violinist/bluegrass fiddler Marc O'Connor and composer/double bass player Edgar Meyer; tango recordings with--and in tribute to--Argentinian music pioneer Astor Piazzolla; the Silk Road Project recordings; and Ma's recent work with Brazilian musicians, featuring sambas, bossa novas, and other Brazilian music. Ma has currently won fifteen Grammy Awards.

Throughout his career, Yo-Yo Ma has been an avid supporter of music and arts education. While on tour, he regularly conducts master classes for aspiring musicians as well as more informal music appreciation programs for general audiences.

Khlyst: Chaos is My Name (2007)

Khlyst: Chaos is My Name

In the wake of Khanate’s untimely demise comes Khlyst, a challenging and potent duo comprised of ex-Khanate bassist and sound organizer James Plotkin and ex-Thorr’s Hammer vocalist Runhild Gammelsæter. The two have chosen a moniker that accurately and acutely reflects their combined power as well as the overall aesthetic sense of their first full-length, Chaos is My Name. Khlyst is Russian for whip, a noun appropriated by subterranean Christian orthodoxy in the late 17th century. Practicing fervent asceticism, Khlysts offset bodily denial and bouts of searing flagellation with ritualistic orgies, as the sect’s ideology orbited the notion of divine grace as attained through the commission of fleshly sin.

Plotkin and Gammelsæter spend 35 minutes delineating this ideology, oscillating from instances of unspeakable violence to emotive and blurrily meditative passages. Gammelsæter’s vocals are extraordinary, animalistic and vengeful, heaving, shrieking and spitting. She condemns and hexes in her native tongue, her words wailed as embodiments of emotional states, bereft of syntax and intelligibility. Guitar, percussion – and sampled and electronically altered versions of guitar and percussion – act as companion piece, simultaneously invasive and complimentary. When the witch’s wrath is wrested from her voice, the sound softens. Cymbals are bowed, scraped, clicked with sticks. A gong bongs. Gammelsæter responds with moans and groans and hisses, sounding like a core of bodies confused in obscene tangles, steadily working towards one heaving, sticky release. An electronic figure flutters in and out of the mix, acting as peculiar leitmotif, inquisitive tones lending a welcome naiveté to music fattened on experience.

Plotkin shapes this record, using technique and exquisite ear to great effect; he knows when to pull triggers and he’s patient enough to know when to recline and just let the music develop in and of itself. Cut-ups, knob-twiddling earth moving and percussive romps that recall some of Cage’s rhythmic and arrhythmic infatuations with instruments as “speaking” artifacts are all taken up and worked out in seamless extremes. Gammelsæter provides the perfect and equal partner; in the end one can only hope that this won’t be relegated to “project” status, but rather worked out and mined over several more recordings.

Shuji Inaba: The Rapture Of Being Destroyed... (2004)

Shuji Inaba: The Rapture Of Being Destroyed...
Shuji Inaba is a Japanese avant-folk singer and guitarist who hasn't reached the same level of documentation as peers like Kan Mikami and Kazuki Tomokawa. No 13 CD box set for Shuji yet! And some might find the prospect of such a box set quite frightening -- a single disc of his raw acoustic guitar playing and whisper-scream vocalizations will be more than enough for a lot of folks. Others will find Inaba's Rapture Of Being Destroyed to be a harrowing yet compelling listen. With some tracks filled with stark outbursts from silence and others more 'song' like, this is a great record recommended for those who already dig the likes of Dead Raven Choir and the aforementioned Kan Mikami.. Hikaru Utada -Exodus

Extreme music from Africa

Africa - the dark continent of the tyrants, the beautiful girls, the bizarre rituals, the tropical fruits, the pygmies, the guns, the mercenaries, the tribal wars, the unusual diseases, the abject poverty, the sumptuous riches, the widespread executions, the praetorian colonialists, the exotic wildlife - and the music.

As a follow-up to Extreme Music From Japan, Susan Lawly releases Extreme Music From Africa. Compiled and co-ordinated after exhaustive research through special contacts from countries as diverse as Morocco, Republic of South Africa, Zimbabwe and Uganda - and the Internet by William Bennett, this extraordinary compilation results in a totally unique vision of a totally unique continent.

Blonde Redhead - "Misery Is A Butterfly"(2004)

Misery is a butterfly|rar
Para su tercer álbum "Fake Can Be Just As Good"(1997)invitaron al bajista de Unwound: Vern Rumsey. En 1998, nuevamente como un trío, lanzaron su cuarto álbum "In an Expression of the Inexpressible" que fue producido por Guy Picciotto guitarrista y vocalista de la banda de punk Fugazi, le siguieron "Melody of Certain Damaged Lemons"(2000), "Mélodie Citronique" EP(2000)y "Misery Is A Butterfly"(2004).

Kan Mikami: Makeru Toki Mo Aru Daro (1978)

Kan Mikami: Makeru Toki Mo Aru Daro

Mikami's songs have their ostensible roots in the folk movement of the '70's in Japan. Upon listening carefully, you can hear hints of the blues, rockabilly, traces of torn down Neil Young (Hibari Misora's Watch -Jo-You, track 4) or just forlorn jaggedness and the peculiar comic that is all Mikami. It s a feverish amalgam of things familiar and vague, alien and confrontational. On track 12 (Black Point Hirano) of his Live CD, Black Point Hirano (Archival Box-Set only release PSFD-122, Track 2 on I'm the Only One Around), Sun Studios beckons in the modalities of the playing and also in the vocal style. Likewise, Jo-You is filled with songs we might more readily associate with the Delta Blues or traditional American folk. Contrast this to any song on Live in Heisei Vol. I & II (with Haino and Yoshizawa PSF 5&6) which just sounds flat out Martian, utterly alone and freezing, and you have an idea of the complexity of Mikami. Between these two poles lies the breadth of work that only someone of Mikami's caliber and experience can deliver.

Petula Clark: Greatest Hits (1986)

Petula Clark: Greatest Hits

The most commercially successful female singer in British chart history, Petula Clark was born November 15, 1932 in Epsom, England. Trained to sing by her soprano mother, Clark embarked on a stage career at the age of seven; soon she was a fixture on British radio programs, and began hosting her own regular show Pet's Parlour [a series spotlighting patriotic songs designed to boost the morale of wartime audiences] at the tender age of 11. After entertaining British troops alongside fellow child stars Julie Andrews and Anthony Newley, Clark made her film debut with A Medal For The General in 1944. By the dawn of the 1950s she was a superstar throughout the U.K., with a resume of close to two dozen films. Clark struggled with her inability to shed her adolescent image. After selling over a million copies of 1961's "Romeo," she married and relocated to France, establishing a strong fan base there. Riding the wave of the British Invasion, Clark was finally able to penetrate the U.S. market in 1964 with the Grammy-winning "Downtown," the first single by a British woman ever to reach number one on the American pop charts. It was also the first in a series of American Top Ten hits [most written and arranged by Tony Hatch] which also included 1965's "I Know a Place" and 1966's "I Couldn't Live Without Your Love" and the number one smash "My Love." At the same time, she remained a huge star throughout Europe, topping the British charts in 1967 with "This Is My Song," taken from the film A Countess From Hong Kong. In 1988, an acid-house remix of "Downtown" reached the U.K. Top Ten, another honor for the female singer awarded the most gold records in British pop history.

This Greatest Hits collection has all the major US hits, plus some British and European chart successes never heard in the US.

'Esquizodelia'.

David Lee Roth: Sonrisa Salvaje (1986)

Sonrisa Salvaje is the Spanish version of Eat 'Em and Smile. According to the Van Halen Encyclopedia, the idea to re-record the album in Spanish was the idea of bassist Billy Sheehan, after Sheehan read an article in a magazine which reported that over half the Mexican population was between the ages of 18-27, a prime record buying market. Roth re-cut all his vocals with the help of a Spanish tutor in the studio. He changed around some of the more racier lyrics, so not to offend the more conservative Spanish. According to Sheehan, the album wasn't received well with many people considering it "Gringo Spanish," and any future Spanish-version ideas were dropped. With the exception of the vocals, the basic music tracks are the same as the "Eat 'Em and Smile" version, with the only exception being "Big Trouble", which ends abruptly as opposed to fading out on the English version.
Sonrisa Salvaje was originally released on vinyl and cassette, but was deleted almost immediately. A CD version did not appear until 2007. All of the liner notes on the original release were written in Spanish except for the copyright notice and the Dolby noise reduction information on the cassette version. (de la wikipedia)
